Ever wonder how that
Massachusetts judge
who took your children
away and stripped you
of your house and assets
got to sit on the bench?
All judges were approved,
usually by unanimous,
vote, by the Governors
Council at a public hearing.
The audio for their
hearings over the last
couple of years can be heard here:

Looking for Lawyers

The Fatherhood Coalition is looking for Lawyers!

The Fatherhood Coalition receives requests for lawyers on a daily basis.

Unfortunately, we have been largely unable to provide such referrals because we don’t know good family court lawyers.

The work we do, speaking to individuals about their case, has led us to the realization that there are many unfit lawyers practicing law.  Currently, we inform individuals of our understanding of the procedures of the court and point them in the direction of where they can research issues affecting their case.  We have not been able to point them in the direction of individuals who can argue their case for them

We would like to move forward and provide a link to lawyers who are willing and able to help people through their legal issues.

However unlike the Bar associations we have standards.

We are looking for lawyers who know how to avoid custody battles.  In the case of divorce we know all too well that there is usually no reason for a custody battle.  Both parents are usually fit parents and there is no reason to impugn their parenting skills.  We are looking for lawyers who have experience with divorcing parents yet have avoided situations where either parent lost custody, either legal or physical.

We do understand no one is perfect. If you have been involved in a case where one parent lost physical or legal custody, we would want to know a bit about such a case so we can understand how it went wrong.

We are looking for lawyers that know how to craft a parenting plan that treat parents as equals.  We are looking for lawyers who have extensive experience in a 50/50 parenting plan.  Standard plans may be one week on one week off; Two overnights a week, plus every other weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. We are looking for lawyers who have extensive experience with 50/50 parenting plans

We are looking for lawyers that understand the problems of child support, that “child support” is simply a transfer of funds and has little to do with the well being of children.  Child support might be helpful in cases where parents have different economic stations in life but where parents have equal economic standing there is no justification for child support. We are looking for lawyers who realize not all cases require a child support order.

We are looking for lawyers that understand the 209a law.  We are looking for lawyers who know when a 209a order can and cannot be used. We are looking for lawyers who will argue strenuously against the inappropriate use of 209a restraining order.  We are looking for lawyers that realize if there are legitimate issues underlying a request for a 209a that they are better handled in a criminal court.

If you believe you have this experience let us know so we can put you on a list of lawyer referrals.
