Last night I went to Northampton, Massachusetts and I spoke with Mr. Robert Reich who is running for governor of Massachusetts. Mr. Reich is a political liberal and was Bill Clintons Labor Secretary during his first administration. While we are on opposite ends of the political spectrum, he is an excellent speaker and has many good ideas. Mr. Reichs strength is as an economist.
I asked him a question from the audience at a first reception that was held at an art gallery about shared parenting as well as spoke to him afterward. He told me that he was for absolute equality with respect to family law, that women should be punished as much as men for their acts of domestic violence, and that he believed in equal access to the child upon a divorce. He later spoke at the Unitarian Church in North Hampton. Because there was an overflow crowd, they would not let anybody in. I snuck around and let myself in a side door in true miscreant fashion.
The Fatherhood Coalition had protest signs outside his speech. Mike Franco and other members of the coalition had a chance to speak with Mr. Reich. Mr. Reich was highly accessible and everyone that wanted to speak to him could.
I was caught in a snowstorm on the way back. Here is a little trick: believe it or not, in a thick snowstorm at night, you see better with low beams, not high beams. It is counterintuitive but the truth. I surmise it has something to do with direct reflection of the water particles. The same holds true for foglow beam is better.
State Senator Nuciforo will be speaking before the Berkshire Fatherhood Coalition at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2002, the place to be determined at later time. We will be speaking about shared parenting. I will be the moderator. Since there are only 30 State Senators, Mr. Nuciforo is an influential position.
And thats the news from Lake Woebegone.
