If lost call the CYC Camp at 442-0520. The CYC Camp, Camp Michael, is just before the Entrance of the Pittsfield State Forrest. If you would like to camp at the Pittsfield State Forrest, call 442-8992. It is very inexpensive to stay there. The Pittsfield State Forrest is right next to CYC camp.

FROM MASS TURNPIKE: From Route 90 (the Mass Turnpike), take US-20 “Lee Exit.” Leaving the Mass Turnpike, take a right onto Route 20 in the town of Lee (this will be plain at the very foot of the exit ramp). Stay on Route 20 heading north. Eventually, Route 20 merges with US 7.

Keep heading north on route 20/7 through the town of Lee, past the turnoff for Lenox and Tanglewood, towards Pittsfield. Some landmarks you will see are Laurel Lake and the Swan Inn on your left and on your right Cranwell resort, which is an old mansion. (This road is also known as “Pittsfield Road” near Pittsfield.) While on Route 20, you will see the Dakota Restaurant on your right and Ames on your left. Route 20 turns into South Street in Pittsfield, and you are heading toward the center of town. You will then see the Pittsfield Country Club and a golf course on your right. Near the center of Pittsfield, you will see a sign that points toward Route 20 West (Albany NY, Hancock) which points to the left (and west) and Route 7 North/Route 20 East. At the point where Rt. 7/North breaks off with Route 20, keep going straight up South Street to Park Square. The Berkshire Place and the Berkshire Museum will be on your right, and the South Congregation Church (which is white) and the red brick First Baptist church will be on you left. You will then hit Park Square, which is a circular rotary in the middle of Pittsfield, at the juncture of East, West, South and North Streets. Park square is circular and has fountain and a civil war statute in the middle.

When you hit oval in Center of Pittsfield, you are at Park Square. You will have to go around it to get to West Street. Follow directions “From Park Square.”

NON-DETAILED DIRECTIONS TURNPIKE: Route 20 North to Park Square, West on West Street, Right onto Churchill Road, Left onto Cascade, CYC Camp will be on left.

FROM ALBANY, NEW YORK: Take Route 90 east and get off on exit 11E, to Route 20 East. Head to New York border, into town of Hancock. You will go up a big mountain in Hancock, the foot of which is in Lebanon New York. You will pass Hancock Shaker Village on your right. You will eventually hit the end of the road, and have to take a left to continue on 20. You will be at the intersection of West Housatonic Street (where you are at), East Housatonic Street (the other side of the road), and South Street (which forms 7 North/20 West). Turn left onto South Street. You will finally see Berkshire Museum on you right. Follow Rt. 7 North (which is going in north direction on South Street). Head towards Park Square (which is oval). Go around Park Square so that you are heading down West Street.

Follow directions “From Park Square.”

NON-DETAILED DIRECTIONS FROM ALBANY: Route 20 East, to Park Square, Route 20 North to Park Square, West on West Street, Right onto Churchill Road, Left onto Cascade, CYC Camp will be on left.

FROM ROUTE 9 COMING FROM AMHERST: Follow signs into Pittsfield. Just after crossing Pittsfield border, in about 1-2 miles, you will see signs for Route 9. You will pass Dalton/Pittsfield town line and pass Berkshire Crossings on your left (has Wal-Mart, Applebees, Tacobell, Barne’s and Noble, Country Buffet, Price Chopper, Home Depot). Keep heading east on Route 9 and you will hit Allendale Shopping Center. You should see McDonalds on your right. (You will pass turnoff for Route 8 North, which you will skip). You will go through two sets of lights. You are now on Dalton Avenue, which is Route 9 West.

After the intersection you will go over a big bridge over railroad tracks.

Heading on Route 9 West (Dalton Avenue) you will see (in order): New England Clam Chowder House will be on your right, GE Plastics (with man made pond) on your left, Busters Entertainment Center on right, Allen Gate Arch (huge stone arch) on right, Debbie Wong/Wonder Bread on right, Mobil Station on you right.

At this bend, Dalton Avenue (which is Rt. 9 West) turns into Tyler Street (which is still Route 9 West). At the bend, Tyler Cafe will be on your left and IUE-CWA Union hall will be on your right. Keep heading up Route 9 West. Pizza House (locally owned) will be on your left. Tyler Car wash will be on left and St. Mary’s church on right. Hess will be on left.

You will hit the intersection of Tyler Street (Route 9), and First Street (Route 7). Take a left onto First Street, and by do so getting on Route 7 South.

Keep heading up First Street along Route 7. Cumberland Farms will be on left, you will go over a bridge with railroad tracks and see the Commons Park (on left), Zion’s Lutheran Church (on left), and then you will see Dunkin Donuts on left and Burger King on right. You will hit the intersection of First Street and East Street.  (First Street comes to an end.) You will be looking directly at the Berkshire Anthenium.

Take a left onto East Street, which is 7 South.

You will be on right side of Park Square, which has a fountain and a civil war statute. First Congregational Bank and Berkshire Bank will on right. Keeping going straight down West Street. Follow directions “From Park Square.”

NON-DETAILED DIRECTIONS FROM AMHERST/ROUTE 9: Rt. 9 West, to Rt. 7 South, West on West
Street, Right onto Churchill Road, Left onto Cascade, CYC Camp will be on left.

FROM PARK SQUARE

Park Square is oval. (Go figure.) It has a fountain and a civil war statute. Park Square marks the intersection of East Street, West Street, South Street and North Street.

At Park Square, get onto West Street. You will see the Berkshire Commons, which as the Crowne Plaza on your left. You cannot miss it. The Crowne Plaza is 13 stories and is by far the tallest structure in Pittsfield. You will then see a Big Y on right. The road will then bend.

Next, you will do something somewhat bizarre. At the end of the road, you will take a left from West Street onto West Street. There will be stop sign, and you will take a left.

This is “outer-West Street.” Heading west on West Street you will see small park on left. Then Saint Mark’s will be on left. Then you will go up a hill and Crosby Elementary School will be on right. You will go down hill and hit another set of lights at the intersection of Valentine Road. (Were you to take a left, you would hit Taconic High School and the Burbank at Onota Lake.) Go through the intersection. Keep going west on West Street until you see signs for “Pittsfield State Forrest.” [If you hit Berkshire Community College, B.C.C., you went too far and missed turnoff for Churchill/Sate Forrest.]

You will take a right onto Churchill Road. You will go up it about 2 minutes. Cascade Road is a C-shaped road. Thus, there are two intersections of Cascade with Churchill. Going up Churchill, take a LEFT at the SECOND intersection of Cascade and Churchill. [If you hit camp Stevens, or camp Winadu, you went too far.]  Go down about a mile and the CYC Camp, Camp Michael will be on your left. You may park in the road if the lot is full (as is likely to be the case.). If you hit a farm on your left (which is somewhat dilapidated, you went to far. (That’s Bill Scace’s farm.)

{At the farm, if you took a left, you would head right into Pittsfield State Forrest.}

We are contemplating running shuttle bus from Pittsfield State Forrest. We need a volunteer for this.
