SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts -- More than 10 fathers rights supporters held a 1-1/2 hour protest this morning at the Hampden Division Hall of Justice hosted by the group Fathers and Children Together.
The purpose of the protest was to condemn sex discrimination with which, the group contents, fathers and men are systematically alienated from their children by the Massachusetts Probate & Family Court system. The protestors held signs with slogans that included, Family Court is Anti-Men, Deals on Fatherlessness and PAS (Parental Alienation Syndrome) here, and Kids need Fathers not Visitors.
"We think this family court is responsible for increased hostilities between separating parents," said Mike Franco, press secretary for the group. "The system, from judges and attorneys to advocacy agencies, feeds off family tragedy."
The group supports "shared parenting" as a presumption of the law and seeks to educate fathers and to help them build self-esteem in parenting. In addition, F.A.C.T. strives for an abuse-free environment for children regardless of the parents gender.
