Mr. Dad walks to Washington

When men first encounter THE THING they react in any of several predictable ways. Many frantically search for a fathers rights organization to join. Others gain the brilliant insight that all the existing organizations are useless and that they must start a new a new organization to do it right. Others self-destruct or go postal.

But, as we all know, most go quietly into the night.

When I first saw Mike Harris, he was the angry-guy-of-the-month, speaking out of turn from the back of the room at a Fathers & Families meeting. Impatient. Champing at the bit to do something now. Why is everybody talking when they should be doing?

But now, three months later, this self-styled "Mr. Dad" has shown that he is not just another angry face in the movement.

On September 1, Harris will put one foot in front the other and begin an 500-mile trek from Rowley, MA to the nation's capital.

According to Mr. Dad,

"This march started out as a personal crusade to call attention to the plight of fathers, like you and me, in Massachusetts. Now, because this pain is not confined to me alone, the theme of a walk to Washington, DC has caught the interest of other organizations throughput the country."

He invites participation from any and all who believe, as he does, that the madness must be stopped now.

Upon arrival in DC on September 23, a press conference has been booked for the National Press Club. Harris estimates that over 200 press people will be in attendance.

Harris' arrival in DC will coincide with the Parents March on Washington (see page 4), which has also scheduled a press conference for the same day.

Mr. Dad wants you to walk with him, or stand with him on September 1 when he embarks on his historical march, or on the 23rd in Washington.

Harris wants your support. If you can't walk with him, you can be a "check-book advocate" by either purchasing a "Mr. Dad walks to Washington" sponsorship, a sponsor ticket for the press conference, or a special breakfast ticket for the press conference and a breakfast at $21.95.
