Still in jail. While Violet and Cheryl's case catches media attention, son Gerald (Tookey) who was tried separately and received a longer sentence, was not affected by Superior Court Judge Robert Barton's decision (since overturned by the SJC, which unfortunately is binding on Gerald) which freed Violet and Cheryl.
Yet, despite the most trying circumstances, with support from his wife Patricia, Gerald has managed to give his three children a loving and guiding hand throughout the decade of his incarceration. Since being transferred to Plymouth County Correctional Facility from the Middlesex House of Detention, he has had to painfully watch through a glass wall, speaking through a telephone, with his two daughters and young son. He has watched his daughters pass through their childhood, adolescence, and now their teenage years.
Without wanting to diminish the suffering of the Amirault women, the separate and unequal sentencing of Gerald adds yet another dimension to the injustice of this case.
