Fathers push for joint custodyGreenfield Recorder, Sept. 1, 2001 |
SHUTESBURY - Members of a local fathers advocacy group are attempting to get a referendum on the November 2002 statewide ballot that's designed to promote joint custody of children in divorce cases.
Called ''An Act Supporting Children, Parents, and Their Continued Relationships,'' the proposed initiate is among 24 currently before the Attorney General's Office.
Among the 11 original signers of the petition are five Franklin County residents, according to the Attorney General's Office World Wide Web site. This includes the local chapter's director, Daniel Grubbs of Shutesbury, himself a divorced father of one child.
Grubbs hopes that passage of the initiative will reduce conflicts that currently exist in custody cases and improve the lives of affected children.
